I love the way these medallions turned out!! I used the papers from my paper stack here. These little gems have so many different options for use, for size, for color and style!!.. They were so easy to make! I decided to make a template and a couple of digital downloads that are customized to different themes such as family, an option for a personalized one, and a blank one. You can find those in my etsy shop.... it could make things quite easy for you. (Find the Blank Cream and Black Three Page Template Here, ) However... I am going to write the tutorial to make these little gems and include instructions even if you dont have my template. I also will include some of the goodies from the pack at the bottom of the page for download.
First... Determine what size, color shape etc and cut out your pieces for your medallion. I like to layer the different circles, and started with the largest as 3". I also cut three strips of paper for the accordion style bunching under the button on top. These were 1" x 6".
Now I decided to make my my medallions into magnets with a clothespin to hold items.
I needed some cute things to hang my shopping list from and photos on my fridge. I am including directions for those also.
First I spray painted my clothes pins... I used black to go with my color scheme.
I then mod podged paper to the tops and bottoms of the clothes pins. When they were dry, I attached a magnet to the back. ( I originally used a magnet strip and it was not strong enough to hold a piece of paper , so I switched to the small round circular ones.. wow are they strong.. and I decided I would not mind because the magnets would be hidden.) There are tutorials out there more detailed on creating these cute little clothespin magnets that really stand alone they are so cute.
While my clothes pins were drying, I folded my accordion strips in a back and forth motion in equal segments.
On my template, I include 3 styles. You can vary things by creating different widths, and edges on your accordion pieces. For this one, I only used two parts like shown on the left ... but also like how three look together but more narrow.. like on the right. Glue edges together so you form a continuous circle.
Then stick to your largest circle. Add lots and lots of glue in the center and hold for a couple of minutes.
Then add the embellishments on the top.
Once assembled glue to your magnets and show them off!!
The possibilities are endless. Make them an award for a special one, add to a card, use as a bow to wrap presents, attach to a scrapbook tutorial.... or what I really liked was to attach to a magnet.
Here are some of the images I used to make these for download. Have fun.. I would love to see what you make.
